Where to go Dog Walking

I am lucky to live in the South Downs area. Because of this I am never far from some great countryside for a dog walk. On this page I will list the places I tend to go to more often when I am dog walking.

Dog walking at Broxhead Common

Broxhead Common (Bordon and Lindford)

Site of Special Scientific Interest, managed by Hampshire County Council.

Along the B3004 there are various laybys that give you access to the common. There is a car park for the common at Lindford Sports Association ground (pointed to by arrow on map below). If you park in this car park, access to the common is a path between the Sports pavilion and the Broxhead Farm.

Various paths crisscross the common and it is easy to work out a walk for the length of time you have. In the Spring beware that there are ground nesting birds and you should keep your dogs near to the path. Also in the spring on the nearby farm if you look across the fields you will very likely see lambs.

Durford Heath (Near Hill Brow, Liss, Hampshire)

Also Know as Durford Wood - National Trust owned woodland

The Sussex Border Path runs through Durford Heath. Map link below gives you the location (Blue P symbol points to car park on the map). Durford Heath is great for a circular walk and gives you about an hours walk. Follow any of the paths to explore. Visit Dog Walking / Pet sitting Home to see a picture of Stella my dog on this walk.

Chapel Common (Near Liphook Hampshire)

Site of Special Scientific Interest, managed by the South Downs Joint Committee’s Heaths Project.

On this heath you may well come across the Heath’s Shetland cattle. They are used to dogs, but don’t let your dogs “worry” them. Because of the cattle the heath is fence and has gates for access, making it particularly safe for dog walking. It is very popular with other dog walkers and expect to come across other dogs. The arrow on the map link below shows where there is parking. Take the road off of the B2070 shown on the map and you will soon find the parking. Please also try this link to a leaflet on Chapel Common

Note between March 1st and 31st July there are many ground nesting birds and you are asked to keep your dog on a lead
